At least one explosion inside Manchester Arena early Monday evening during a packed Ariana Grande concert claimed as many as 19 lives and injured more than 50 others.
The explosion, which witnesses are describing as a possible nail bomb, occurred in the foyer area of the Arena and blocked rail lines to the Victoria station.
Thousands of people ran from the area in a panic, abandoning personal items in the area. Many unattended children were being assisted by emergency personnel in trying to locate families and treat injuries.
Local hospitals were placed in lockdown mode and citizens have been cautioned that other attacks are possible.
Police did do a second controlled detonation on a suspect item but later described the item as abandoned clothing, possible left behind by concert-goers.
No terrorist organizations have claimed responsibility as of yet.
Representatives for Ariana Grande have issued statements reassuring fans that Grande was fine, and that they are in disbelief over the incident.
Police have requested that the public avoid the area while emergency personnel identify and tend to the victims and police investigate the scene.
