We all have experienced that pull from the dark side and Hardy is feeling it right now as he agrees to play one of the most recognizable bad guys in history. The movie which is alleged to be a spinoff of the Spider-Man universe pits the Thirty-Nine year old actor as Eddie Brock “Venom.”
The movie which is already drawing a ton of interest is set to start production as early as this fall and will launch toward the end of 2018. Sony knows the character is popular because of its darkness but it appears that they are prepared to take it a step further and attempt to appeal to the Horror crowd. There are rumors that Peter Parker may die as early as the opening scene of the first fil.
Who do you cheer for when the protagonist of the story has always been one of your favorite antagonist? That’s why Tom Hardy makes so much since here as Sony tiptoes out on a branch nobody has approached before. You need a villain people will love and empathize with but still feel free to despise a little bit. The lovable bad-boy should be able to pull that off quite nicely.
Don’t confuse Sony’s Marvel Universe with the Marvel Universe that allows Disney to capitalize off of the Super Heroes. Sony has found a way to capitalize off of the dark side of Marvel and Tom Hardy’s Venom with be the first of many villains they bring to life including Silver Sable and Black Cat.
The results of this particular film will spell out the precedent for Sony’s movie output and will set the stage for the near future of Hardy’s acting career. It’s hard not to be excited about how amazing this could turn out to be and how the villain as the good guy could flip the script on filmmaking.
