NBA fans have been anticipating this game since the minute Kevin Durant put pen to paper and made Golden State his official new hope. No one has been anticipating it more than KD however and he made that obvious tonight as he exploded for 23 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds right away in the first half.
Nobody has been fearing the matchup as much as LeBron James who had a very good start as well with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. His worst nightmare had to be realized when after putting up a monster performance to start the game, his team was still down 60-52 to the team who has dominated the NBA over the last three seasons.
As much as he’s been criticized for his decision, Durant claims that he chose to go to Golden State because of the welcome he received from his future teammates. He felt they understood that he would take away from their touches and it didn’t bother them since their focus was on another ring. That attitude was clear in game one as his teammates fed him the ball to the tune of 38 points. The best part of the story is that he didn’t hesitate to return the favor and he also ended up with 8 assists.
Steph Curry contributed the best way he knows how, by draining 6 three pointers and ended up with twenty-eight points. The rest of the Warriors starters were fairly quiet, although Draymond Green barely missed a double-double as he finished with 9 points and 11 rebounds.
LeBron James had a decent game himself but the best “player in the world” was no match for the best “scorer in the word.”
Game 2 is on Sunday at 7 pm at Golden State.
