I’ve been following Peter Parker and his shenanigans since I was just a little fella. He was always a bit cheesy, corny, unrealistic and unbelievable, exactly the things you want in a comic book hero. He was funloving and you could sense those same clumsy tendencies in him that we all fight off everyday. We crave a hero that is just like us or maybe even a step below us in some ways and Spidey has provided the answer to that fantasy.
They have tried so hard to bring us the web-slinger we are used to seeing in the colorful squares of the comic book, but so far they have either made him way too nerdy or way too dark and serious. The version we see in the trailer today seems to be just right. Quirky but confident, vulnerable but determined, and always cocky in his juvenile way.
It seems like he feels more lucky, then entitled to be your friendly neighborhood wall-crawler and that is what makes him so endearing. Tom Holland appears to feel similarly about portraying him. He has a Spidey obsession and is happy to have the role, although he also has other, loftier aspirations. Holland hopes to some day play Bruce Wayne and James Bond.
The movie comes out in exactly a month, which isn’t too long to wait at all for a film that continues to play along with the rest of the Marvel superhero flicks.
