There is something so intoxicating about Lambeau Field and the vibes that float around the historic venue. You go there for football but you leave small town America with the sense that you were just in a battlefield and the spirits of the warriors were still there haunting you with passion and pride. It’s not just another football stadium, it’s a monument to a meat packaging plant, and the city of Green Bay who birthed our nations favorite sport in many different ways, and to all of the dedicated players and personnel who have worn its color.
Last night, one of their newest members took it to a whole new level. Recently acquired Packers tight end Martellus Bennett could have found lodging just about anywhere but he decided to keep himself as close to the field as possible. He cuddled up, all by himself on the locker room floor.
Why? I’m not sue exactly but that’s the kind of stuff you do when you are a member of the greatest organization in sports history and when you have a date with a legend like Aaron Rodgers in a couple of days.
You’d think this guy was a rookie who had never suited up for a pro team before but he’s not. He just left the depending Champion New England Patriots where he had a very good season with Tom Brady, the quarterback many think is the best ever. So why is he still so hungry?
Bennett said before that the only thing this team lacks is confidence. It seems that he doesn’t lack any faith in them however and he is already dreaming of a bright future. It appears that he believes this squad, with him involved, can do even greater things than the one that he just left.
Martellus Bennett might be able to put his head down on the giant “G” in the middle of the place where the Green and Gold store their battle armor. My advice to the rest of the league after last night, however…
Don’t sleep on the Green Bay Packers this year!
